- Cover image of Pleiades by Pfirter. The Pleiades is an open star cluster containing hot, young stars in the constellation Taurus. It's the most obvious cluster to the naked eye in the night sky. The cluster is dominated by luminous, deep blue stars that have formed in the last 100 million years. The reflection nebulae around the brightest stars is an unrelated cloud of dust in the interstellar medium through which starlight currently passes. The Pleiades hold a prominent place in ancient mythology, as well as a diversity of meanings in different cultures and traditions. -
